Christ Episcopal Church

Dear Parish Family,

As we move into summer, I am reflecting on the meaning of confirmation, which we celebrated this year on May 30th. Confirmation is the time when those baptized as infants reaffirm promises made for them by others. It is a time when those who have been baptized receive laying on of hands by the bishop and the fullness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I invite you to take a moment and look up the promises you made at baptism for the living of the Christian life, and know that God gives you all the gifts necessary (confirmed or not!) to accomplish the life to which you are called.

This summer at Christ Church we are alive with ways, both new and old, for our church family to live out their baptismal covenant in the world.

The mustard seeds planted last winter are bearing fruit. The Earth Connections Mustard Seed is ready to invite you all to serve (please see page __). The Childcare Connections Mustard Seed is exploring the need for and seeking to build community support for an integrated childcare center in Cody. It won’t be long before you are all invited in to help with this important work. The Elder Connections Mustard Seed continues to look into the most effective ways to provide support for elders so they can continue to live in their homes. Wow! A whole new generation of outreach ministry is emerging at Christ Church.

New and exciting ministry is also being generated through the Bargain Box operations. You are all probably familiar with the Bargain Box clothing and furniture stores that provide low cost clothes and home goods to shoppers in a pleasant environment, and that the profit from both stores is “recycled” back into the community through Mission Committee Grants. We may be less aware of the earth friendly ministry of the Bargain Box as it saves 90,000 pounds of clothes a year from being thrown into the landfill. The clothes that aren’t sold, or shared with the thrift store at the Crow Agency, are stored in Gayle and Douglas Sunderland’s barn until a truck from Seattle comes to pick them up and ship them to meet needs around the world. This winter and spring a faithful task force has been working to set up an expandable baling operation to more efficiently process those clothes. If you are interested in learning more about this new venture, please talk to a member of the task force: Malcolm Adams, Mark or Rosie Fisher, David Fike, Kathy Vezzetti, Matt Jackson or Jerry Hagar. Please keep the baler in your prayers.

And let us not forget our ongoing commitment to support the work of Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity – helping one day every few months at the build site makes all the difference for a family’s dreams of a safe and affordable home. Please plan to join us Saturday, June 27th, for the Christ Church build day.

Peace, Mary
